A new paper on marine crocodile evolution is available in full here: http://palaeo.gly.bris.ac.uk/Benton/reprints/2014Martin.pdf

It relates marine crocodilomorph evolution and extinction to sea surface temperatures.
Metriorhynchids differ from the other crocodilomorphs in their response to sea surface temperatures; possibly because of their more pelagic lifestyle and hypothesised ability to give birth to live young.
